WHERE WE ARE
As a resident you will know where Winterborne Kingston is but if anyone has stumbled across this blog from outside the area I hope this will give you some idea of where we are and what the village is like

The map above shows where we are. the village is about 2 miles from Bere Regis and about 15 miles from Poole and 8 miles from Blandford. The village is on the C road which runs from just east of Bere Regis on the A31 to Blandford.
It is situated in a valley and the Winterborne part of its name is derived from the winter running stream.  Winterborne  is an extremely common name in this area and there are  adjoining villages  of Winterborne Anderson, Muston. Thomson and Zelston to the east of the village as well as many other Wintetrbornes nearby . These 5 villages all form part of the Lower Winterborne Parish Concil area.
On all sides of the village are farms most of whom grow arable products with some carrying out meat production.

In Winterborne Kingston we have in common with many other villages in Dorset a parish church.

There is also  a pub - The Greyhound.

The nearest shop is in Bere Regis.

The population at the time that the Parish Plan was carried out in 2005 was approximately 420 and although some residents are employed in local agriculture many work
in other places away from here.

The village also has a primary school.

There are many varied activities in the village such as a golf society, keep fit, flower and gardening clubs, WI many of which are centred on a Village Hall located centrally.

A large recreation ground is situated to the north of the village and was once a thriving cricket ground and until recently the home of a football club but sadly no sporting activities no longer take place there. The recreation ground is the home of the Youth Club which is also used as day nursery.

There are many talented people living in the village and hopefully they will allow me to post samples of their work in later posts.

Some small businesses are located within the villages including a shepherds hut holiday business, a garage, a trailer hire company, a home grown produce provider, a mobile fish and chip selling concern and probably a lot more.

Fuller explanations  of items mentioned above will be given in more detail in later posts.
